Golden Rules for Weight Loss
The secret to weight loss is to pay attention to what you’re eating. Your goals are ACHIEVABLE so long as you stick to these five golden rules. They aren’t as hard as you might think…
1. Drink MORE water
Okay, so this one is probably the most important out of them all. Drinking more water is going to help significantly when it comes to controlling your appetite and controlling your portions. Try drinking a full glass of water 10 minutes before you eat your meals, you’ll be surprised at how full you feel after those meals.
2. Portion CONTROL
This one ties in perfectly with the point above and I’ve got to say, it is the single most underrated factor when it comes to fat loss. Needless to say, if you control your portion sizes, you can significantly reduce your intake of calories. If you usually fill your plate to the brim, try and cut back 1/3 of that. Your plate should never look like it’s about to overflow.
3. Cook your own FRESH food
Ever heard people say that working with food makes you less hungry? Well, anecdotal evidence would suggest to me that this is true – I used to work at McDonald’s and I rarely ate. Even if it’s not true, it’s still a much healthier alternative than stopping by your local fish & chip shop on the way home from work.
4. Allow yourself a HEALTHY treat
I’ve heard a lot of things from a lot of different sources, suggesting that it is okay to have this epic cheat meal and that it helps you stay on track. Having gained and lost before, this is a very slippery slope. You must have some extreme discipline to pull this off so I prefer and advise people to allow themselves healthy treats. So instead of feasting on a massive Chinese takeaway, opt for the flatbread pizza instead. It’s healthier and much less calorific.
5. Drink LESS sugary drinks
Finally, fizzy drinks and cordials are your worst enemy when you’re trying to lose weight. All the sugar within causes a huge insulin spike and once your blood sugar levels drop back to normal, your body starts thinking it’s hungry or thirsty for more. So, going back to golden rule number 1. Drink more water!
